Janice Davis is a very gifted signer. She had a very beautiful voice. Growing up, she had an attitude to match. She was born in 1969. She began singing at the age of 3. She showed talent then. She attended Robinson Temple COGIC in Eastman. She was appointed as the youth choir director in 1984. She was very forceful and demanding of the youth in the choir. She served faithfully and the youth choir grew in number and in skill. Janice was appointed as a choir director of the adult choir of Robinson Temple. She was met with opposition because she was young. She was as demanding with the adults as she had been with the youth. A group of adult choir members got together and lobbied to have her removed as a choir director. Once Janice found out, she left the choir and the church. She did not sing again until late 1989. The Eastman City Community Choir was looking for a choir director in 1989. They offered Janice the position. She refused the first time they asked her. Her grandmother talked to her and told Janice to consider taking the position. Janice thought about it for three months. In the interim, Janice was allowed to travel with the choir. She only went on one outing with the choir. At this outing, she received a word of prophesy. The guest evangelist told Janice that she was supposed to use her gifts for the Lord. He also said that Janice would be directing a 100 member choir soon. Janice did not believe that she was supposed to direct the Eastman City Community Choir because there were only 46 members in the choir at the time. Two months later, the Eastman City Community Choir had exactly 100 members. The president of the choir remembered the prophecy and offered Janice the position again. This time, Janice accepted. Janice remained at the choir director until 1992. In 1992, Janice signed with Mo'Sound Gospel. A number of the members of the Eastman City Community Choir were furious with Janice. She signed as a solo artist. The expected her to sign with them as her choir, Janice Davis and Eastman City Community Choir. Those members said some nasty things about Janice. She almost gave up her recording contract with Mo'Sound. The same evangelist, who had prophesied to Janice before, talked to her. He talked her out of giving up the contract. She recorded her first CD in 1994. Janice Davis Sings (featuring the Eastman City Community Choir). As a result, the Eastman City Community Choir signed with Shelley Volante Records. The Eastman City Community Choir has sung on all of Janice's CDs and Janice has sung on all of their CDs. Songwriters and producers such as Jordan Ransom, Detroit Samples, DM Adkins, James Linsondon, and Power Franklin have written songs for her. |
