Mo'Sound Gospel Records began in November of 1980. Betty Green who was then the Vice-President of talent for K-3080 Records had discovered two Gospel artists that she wanted to sign. The president of K-3080 Records, Armand Melbourne, did not feel that K-3080 Records was a label that was suitable to promote Gospel music. He turned Betty down. Betty went back several times with the same request. Armand turned Betty down on all of those occasions. Betty took Armand to hear Ruth Coleman and the Coleman Singers perform. Armand was very impressed. He decided that having Gospel artists on the label would be a good idea. He discussed the idea with Betty. Together they decided to start a new label to produce only Gospel music. Armand allowed Betty to name the new Gospel label. She decided to name the label, Mo'Sound Gospel Records. The first act to sign with Mo'Sound Gospel was a singer by the name of Beverly Wiyze. The second act to sign was Ruth Coleman and the Coleman Singers. In 1982, Mo'Sound Gospel bought out Gospel Sounds Records. This increased Mo'Sound Gospel's roster by five acts. Mo'Sound Gospel currently has a number of artists on the label. |
